Levaquin Tendon Rupture & Tendonitis

Levaquin levoflaxacin is part of the fluoroquinolone group of medications which is soon to be black boxed by the FDA for causing a number of serious, painful, side effects. Fluoroquinolone medications, a group of oral antibiotics, have especially been linked to causing serious tendon injuries – including ruptures.

Levaquin has become infamous for the tendon injuries and tendon ruptures it may cause. Levaquin has been in existence (and FDA approved) since 1996; however, the now popular oral form of the drug was not available until 2004. Since that time 500mg – 750mg doses of Levaquin have been created and widely distributed by its manufacturer Ortho-McNeil.

It has recently been confirmed that patients who are taking Levaquin or who have taken it in the past are at increased risk for tendon ruptures, tendonitis, and a variety of other tendon related injuries. Levaquin Tendon Injury may strike at any time, which is extremely troubling for anyone who has taken the antibiotic in the past. Tendon injuries have been reported well after 6 months of taking the drug.

Tendon ruptures, tendonitis, and other tendon disorders have been reported in literally hundreds of people who have taken Levaquin or another fluoroquinolone in the past. Of these injuries more than 60% have been directly connected to Levaquin Side Effects.

Levaquin Tendon Injury Information

Levaquin tendon injuries have been most commonly reported in the form of injuries or ruptures in the Achilles tendon, yet Levaquin has also been linked to injuries and ruptures in the thumb, hand, biceps, and rotator cuff.

Many people have had to undergo surgery in order to correct the injuries they suffered as a result of taking Levaquin. In some instances, the damage Levaquin caused is irreversible. The injuries that Levaquin and other fluoroquinolones cause are painful, unpredictable, and unacceptable.
