A new analysis by the FDA has confirmed that the use of Levaquin and levofloxacin can increase risk of tendon rupture and tendonitis. The FDA database has reported several hundred cases of tendon ruptures, tendonitis, and other tendon side effects caused by the medication. Achilles tendon ruptures are the most commonly reported side effect reported to the FDA.
Levaquin has received an FDA warning after copious amounts of people reported tendon injuries, disorders, and ruptures. FDA research found that the use of
the drug may result in extensive surgery in order to repair the damage caused as a result of taking the drug. The FDA black box warning is the most severe warning that may be issued. After this the Food and Drug Administration may consider recalling
the drug due to the severe damage it causes.

Levaquin has been linked to tendon ruptures in the shoulder cuff (rotary), biceps, hand and thumbs. Achilles tendon ruptures are diagnosed through the following examples; swelling of the area or bruising, difficulty walking, or sudden and ongoing pain.
Signs & Symptoms of Tendonitis
Tendonitis caused by Levaquin can be diagnosed by a variety of symptoms including; pain, tenderness, or swelling of the area. The different types of tendonitis locations can include; tennis elbow, achilles tendonitis, adductor tendonitis, patellar tendonitis, and rotator cuff tendonitis.
